Banca Romaneasca, member of the National Bank of Greece was founded in 1993 as a universal commercial bank with private capital. Since September 1996, the bank became the first Western Union agent in Romania. For the first time in Romania, a bank was involved in electronic money transfer services worldwide. In 1996, the bank offers these services through six locations now being offered in 200 locations throughout the country. In 1999, the Romanian-American Investment acquired the majority, the Bank established partnerships with international financial institutions, which enabled support for Romanian SMEs. In October 2003, National Bank of Greece acquired the Romanian-American Investment Fund 81.65% of Romanian Bank capital, becoming the majority shareholder. Including bank NBG Group was one of the most significant phases in the history of Romanian Bank and a guarantee for an important position in the market for a long-term strategic development of it.
