Company Description
Bancpost was established on 1 July 1991, by Government Resolution, following a reorganization of the communications sector, by taking over part of the assets of the RomPostTelecom public ompany. Bancpost was authorized by the National Bank of Romania to operate as a universal, commercial and savings bank. In 1997, the State Ownership Fund nominates Bancpost for privatization and launches the tender for consultancy on the financial assesment of the bank. In 2002, Bancpost became the first fully privatized bank in the Romanian banking system. In November 2003, Eurobank (Eurobank Ergasias SA) became the majority shareholder of Bancpost. Since then, the Group has steadily expanded its presence in Romania. Thus, in 2009 it consolidated its stake in Bancpost to 99%. Moreover, Eurobank has developed an entire financial group in Romania, through the establishment or acquisition of a number of Romanian companies operating in nine different fields, such as financing, leasing, private banking, equity, insurance, real estate, etc.
