Certasig - Societate De Asigurare Si Reasigurare SA was founded in 2003 following a merger between the former company FORTUNA SA Baia Mare, and the former Romanian- Canadian Insurance Company AROCA SA Bucharest. In the mid of 2006, the majority stake was bought by a group of Spanish businessmen, that increased the joint stock of the company. For the end of 2007, the shareholders decided the admittance of the Swiss Group Royalton Partners among the shareholders by selling to the Swiss group 95% stake. Certasig operates on internal and external markets having subsidiaries in Constanta, Cluj and Bulgaria - Sofia and regional representatives in Suceava, Ploiesti and Ramnicu Valcea. The company is also member of National Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies in Romania and is a shareholder in The Insurance Pool against Natural Disasters (PAID).
