In 1998, the energetic field is reorganized, the Ministry of industry and Commerce dissolving RENEL and founding Compania Nationale de Electricitate (CONEL). Thus, the former groups of RENEL became joint stock companies. Centrala Electrica de Termoficare Galati with an installed capacity of 535 MW, was destined to supply thermal energy (in the form of process steam and hot water) of urban consumers and industrial customers in the city of Galati and delivery of electricity to the National Power Grid.
