Philips Romania is the third most important player in Romanian consumer appliances with 8% volume share in 2013, down from 10% in 2009. the company has 12% of small appliances, recording decline over the last four years due to strengthening competition from cheaper brands. Philips started its activity in Romania in 1925. Two years later, the company opened its first factory in Bucharest, the old Electronica factory specialising in radio equipment. After work was abandoned in the local market due to World War II, Philips returned to Romanian market in 1992. Philips Romania was founded in 1992, and is part of the Philips Group.
