In November, 1995 Formosa Sumco Technology Corporation was jointly established by Formosa Plastic Group and Sumco with shareholding 29.06% and 48.9% respectively, with registered capital NT$7,387,586,660. In December, 2007 the company was listed publicly in Taiwan Stock Exchange. The company is the only 12-inch silicon wafer supplier with a whole process of crystal pulling, slicing, grinding, polishing and cleaning. Formosa Sumco Technology Corporation is principally engaged in the manufacture and distribution of silicon wafer products. The company’s major products are eight-inch silicon wafers and twelve-inch silicon wafers, which are applied primarily in the manufacture of semiconductor products, such as integrated circuits (ICs) and dynamic random access memory (DRAM) products. It also involves in the import and export trading of silicon wafers and relevant materials. The company distributes its products in domestic and overseas markets, such as the Americas and other Asian markets. The company’s eight-inch silicon wafers were granted ISO 9002 Certification in December, 1999, ISO 14001 Certification in March, 2001, QS 900 Certification in March, 2003, OHSAS 18001 Certification in April, 2005 and TS 16949 Certification in April, 2005. The company’s twelve-inch silicon wafers were granted OHSAS 18001 Certification in April, 2007 and TS 16949 Certification in April, 2007. By the end of 2009 the company’s 8-inch wafers production capacity could reach 320,000 per month and 12-inch wafers production capacity could reach 160,000 per month. Its products mainly supply two terminal markets, i.e. semiconductor and DRAM. Major customers include Inotera, Nanya, Winbond and other DRAM makers, as well as UMC, TSMC, VIS, Macronix and other companies, and the top five customers accounted for about 70%.
