IBM was established in Uruguay as a subsidiary in 1938. In 1943 it changed its name to IBM of Uruguay S.A. It was the first to install tele-processes in the country, in the Banco Comercial, which still is, even today, one of the main private networks in the country. Today the company is engaged in the production of computers, peripherals, also software.
