Tong Cong Ty Co Phan Dien Tu Va Tin Hoc Viet Nam, also known as Viettronics Corporation, is a company located in Ha Noi, Vietnam. It was established in October 1970 as the Electronics Research Department under the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade). From 1971 to 1975, the department conducted various research projects. After May 1975, it provided support to electronic industrial facilities in the southern region, which are now part of the company's subsidiaries in the southern provinces. In 1980, the Council of Ministers (now the Government) decided to establish the Electronics Union of Enterprises under the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy, with its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. From 1980 to 1984, the union strengthened its organization and stabilized production, laying the foundation for the development of Vietnam's electronics industry. The Viettronics brand became familiar to consumers during this time. The union invested in production lines for resistors, capacitors, and printed circuits from France, Italy, and the former Czechoslovakia. It also produced rotating capacitors, switches, and voltage regulators for domestic and former socialist countries. In 1984, the Party and the State decided to establish the Electronics and Information Technology General Department under the Council of Ministers, and the Electronics Union of Enterprises became part of this department. After four years of operation, the Electronics and Information Technology General Department merged with the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy. In 1988, the Prime Minister decided to establish the Vietnam Electronics and Information Technology Union under the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy (later the Ministry of Heavy Industry). From 1988 to 1994, the union achieved remarkable success and strong development. On October 27, 1995, Viettronics Corporation was established based on the Vietnam Electronics and Information Technology Union under the Ministry of Industry (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade). It operates in three main fields: consumer electronics, specialized electronics, and information technology. The corporation has 13 member companies with an annual revenue of approximately 100 million USD and an export processing value of about 30 million USD per year. In May 2004, the Prime Minister approved the pilot equitization of five state-owned enterprises at the corporation level, including Viettronics Corporation. The equitization plan was promptly developed and submitted to the Government, which was approved on January 7, 2005. On November 21, 2006, Viettronics Corporation successfully conducted its first public auction of shares at the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchanges. On February 3, 2007, the first Shareholders' General Meeting and the establishment of Viettronics Corporation were successfully organized in Hanoi. On March 1, 2007, Viettronics Corporation officially began its operations under a new model. The state capital was transferred to the State Capital Investment and Business Corporation (SCIC) for management. On August 25, 2013, the Shareholders' General Meeting of Viettronics Corporation agreed to change the English trading name to VIETTRONICS CORPORATION and set the development direction for the following sectors: consumer electronics, energy and industry, building electromechanics, medical electronics, and information technology and communication.
