Japan Tobacco International Senta (JTI Senta), former state-owned Duvanska Industrija Senta, was initially established in 1956 under the Duvan name. The company is engaged in the following activities - wholesale distribution of tobacco products, manufacture of tobacco products, purchase and processing of tobacco.The production facilities of the Serbian arm are located in the town of Senta.
In 2005, Serbian government acquired a 47.5% stake in Duvanska Industrija Senta by assuming a debt of more than EUR 2.5 million owed by the company to domestic bank Vojvodjanska Banka. In May 2006, Japan Tobacco Inc., purchased a 98.4% stake in the tobacco firm from the country's government and other investors for a total of EUR 27.5 million. Japan Tobacco has pledged a minimum investment of EUR 2.5 million in the Serbian company to install the necessary equipment and start production of its Winston and other brands at the facility in 2007. In 2012 another local arm of JTI - JT International Marketing and Sales, merged into JT International Senta.
