Metro Cash & Carry Serbia, a unit of German retail giant Metro AG, opened its first cash-and-carry store in Serbia, in the Belgrade district of Krnjaca, in January 2005. It is the largest food retailer in Serbia.
A total 16 Serbian companies produce a range of 59 products under the Metro brand.
On the Serbian market, Metro competes with Slovenia's Mercator, Greece's Veropoulos, Croatian Agrokor and local retailer Delta M.
The company manages 3 distribution centres in Belgrade, and by one in Kragujevac, Nis, Novi Sad, Palic, Pozarevac and Sabac.
