China’s beverage sector reported a significant decrease in revenue in the first quarter of 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Beverage retail sales in January-March 2020 were down by 3% y/y to RMB 46.8bn. In Q1 2020, all alcoholic beverages production saw a sharp decline. The production of baijiu in the first three months of 2020 plunged by 17.8% y/y to 1.7bn litres. The output of the other two major alcoholic beverages, beer and grape wine, was down by 35.1% and 44.8% y/y to 5.5bn litres and 58mn litres, respectively. The production of soft drinks in the first quarter of 2020 fell by 13% y/y to 30.9mn tonnes,
