Although the sector’s growth has declined with the deterioration of the global and domestic economic situation, it still remains profitable and attractive for investment. The revenue of the textile industry over the first eight months of 2016 stood at RMB 2,563bn, an increase of 1.5% over the same period in 2015. Its total profit grew faster than revenue and reached RMB 128bn by the end of August 2016, up by 3.4%. However, the levels of growth exhibited are considerably below the goal of 6-7% annual growth set by the government. In order to fulfil these goals, new incentives need to be offered to industry participants. The remaining months of 2016 will show whether the industry will be able to overcome the internal and external challenges it faces and continue its development.
