The food and beverage industry is one of the largest sectors in the Colombian economy. Between 2014 and 2019, the sector’s GVA rose at a CAGR of 2.03%, boosted by growing domestic demand and higher household incomes. The best-performing segment during this five-year period was coffee production, the GVA of which grew at a CAGR of 4.78%, followed by grain milling, pasta, bakery products and animal foods with a CAGR of 4.31%. In 2019, the industry was among the major employers in the country, responsible for 26.6% of all jobs in the manufacturing industry. In 2019, the sector was responsible for 11.1% of Colombia’s total export value, with coffee and oils and fats among the leading exporting segments with a history of chronic trade surpluses.
