Banco de Occidente S.A. is a Honduran bank that was established in 1951 in the city of Santa Rosa de Copán. It was founded by a group of forward-thinking citizens who recognized the need for a banking institution in the western region of Honduras. The bank aimed to promote economic and social development in the rich and productive region of the country. For the first nineteen years of its operation, Banco de Occidente S.A. only had one office in Santa Rosa de Copán. However, due to its knowledge of the area and the agricultural and livestock activities throughout the country, it provided credit operations in the entire western region and the northern coast. The bank began expanding to other parts of the country in 1970 with the opening of a branch in San Pedro Sula. Currently, Banco de Occidente has a presence in almost all departments of Honduras, with 9 branches and 170 offices. It generates employment and meets the banking needs of each community it serves. Despite its growth in personnel and the updating of its furniture and equipment, Banco de Occidente aims to maintain its spirit of a typical small-town bank in Honduras. It emphasizes collaboration and service to both its customers and non-customers, as well as contributing to the progress of the community. The bank strives to be a driving force for economic and social development wherever it operates.
