NMC Health Plc (United Arab Emirates)

NMC Health Plc, established in 1975 in Abu Dhabi and currently headquartered in London, UK, is a private healthcare provider with two main business divisions – NMC Healthcare and NMC Trading. NMC Healthcare operates hospitals, day-surgery centres, medical centres and pharmacies in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain. The company, under the name New Medical Centre, commenced work in 1975 as a pharmacy and a clinic in Abu Dhabi. Later on, it expanded its cervices to operate several general and specialized hospitals in the country. The second division, NMC Trading, was launched in 1981 and specializes in the distribution of pharmaceutical, scientific, FMCG, food, veterinary and educational products. At first, it distributed medicines only and later developed its product distribution range to FMCGs and cosmetics. It has been holding the exclusive agency for NIVEA in the UAE since 1989. In 2012 NMC became the first Abu Dhabi company to be listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is part of the FTSE 250 index. Also in 2012, NMC acquired the elite day surgery centre BR Medical Suites located in Dubai Healthcare City and was awarded the operation and management of the 260 room Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital, in Umm al Quwain. NMC is also the owner of Brightpoint Royal Women’s Hospital – the first private hospital dedicated to women and child care in Abu Dhabi. In 2015 NMC completed the strategic acquisitions of two UAE based healthcare services providers, namely Americare Group and Dr. Sunny Healthcare Group. In 2016 the company expanded its activities to acquire healthcare facilities in other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Colombia and Brazil.
