The Bank of Albania (BoA) is the Central Bank of the Republic of Albania established in December 23, 1997. BoA's main responsibilities include formulating, adopting and executing the monetary policy, the foreign exchange arrangement and the exchange rate policy of Albania, as well as issuing or revoking of licenses and supervising banks that engage in the banking business in order to secure the stability of the banking system. BoA also holds and manages the country's official foreign reserves, acts as banker and adviser to, and as fiscal agent of, the Government and promotes an effective operation of the payments system.
Bank of Albania is managed by a Governor and Supervisory Council. Its organizational structure consists of 15 departments. Except for the headquarters in Tirana, the Bank has 5 branches, located in Shkoder, Elbasan, Gjirokaster, Korce, and Lushnje.
