Tirex Explorations, which was set up in 2006, is fully-owned by Canadian mineral extracting company Tirex Resources. It started exploration activities in the Mirdita mineral field in 2007.
In April 2010, the firm launched drilling operations at the Mirdita VMS (Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide) area. The site covers 344 square kilometers and is rich in copper, zinc, gold and silver.
