Elektro Doboj, established as a separate legal entity in 1977, is one of the five power distribution companies in Bosnia's Serb Republic, which are all subsidiaries of the region's main power utility Elektroprivreda RS. It is the main distributor of electricity in the 2, 836 square kilometres Doboj region of the autonomous republic, which makes up post-war Bosnia together with the Muslim-Croat Federation. The utility supplies power to eight municipalities and the total number of its consumers exceeds 65,000. Average annual consumption stands at 430 GWh. Elektro Doboj operates nearly 5,000 kilometers of low-voltage overhead lines and 250 kilometers of low-voltage underground cable. Post-war Bosnia has three ethnically-based power companies. Elektroprivreda RS, which is based in the town of Trebinje in Bosnia's Serb Republic, sells electricity mainly in the Serb republic and also exports to neighboring Croatia and Montenegro. The other two, Sarajevo-based Elektroprivreda BiH and the Mostar-headquartered Elektroprivreda Herceg Bosna, belong to the Muslim-Croat federation. The power systems of the two regions were reunited in 2004 after being divided for more than a decade due to the 1992-95 civil war.
