The Bank conducts its business on the Shari a principles of Mudaraba, Musharaka, Bai-Murabaha, Bai-Muajjal, Hire Purchase under Shirkatul Melk, Bai-Salam, Bai-as Sarf, etc.
There is a Shari a Supervisory Committee in the Bank who ensures that the activities of the Bank are being conducted on the precepts of Islam. The Shari a Supervisory Committee consists of prominent Shari a scholars, reputed Bankers, renowned Lawyers and eminent Economists.
HISTORY:
The Bank was established on March 13, 1983. This Bank is the first of its kind in South-East Asia. It is committed to conduct all banking and investment activities on the basis of interest-free profit-loss sharing system. With the active co-operation and participation of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and some other Islamic banks, financial institutions, government bodies and eminent personalities of the Middle East and the Gulf countries, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited has by now earned the unique position of a leading private commercial bank in Bangladesh.
The Company was listed on Dhaka Stock Exchange on July 02, 1985 and on Chittagong Stock Exchange on March 03, 1996.
Effective August 06, 2023, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited will change its name to Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.
