Sonar Bangla Insurance Limited (SBIL) is a non-life insurance company located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was incorporated on March 14, 2000, as a public limited company under the Companies Act, 1994. The company's vision is to become a premier non-life insurance company. It obtained the certificate of registration for carrying insurance business from the Chief Controller of Insurance (now IDRA) on April 26, 2000. SBIL started its business with a paid-up capital of Tk. 6.00 crore against the authorized capital of Tk. 20.00 crore. The company is sponsored by a group of renowned business personalities and reported industrialists of the country who have involvement in diversified businesses. Currently, SBIL has an authorized capital of Tk. 100.00 crore and a paid-up capital of Tk. 40,04,14,450/-. The Hon'ble Chairperson of the company is Mr. Sheikh Kabir Hossain, who is an eminent social personality in Bangladesh. He is also the Chairman of Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd. & National Tea Company, as well as the President of the Bangladesh Insurance Association. Mr. Hossain has held various important positions in organizations such as the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Lions Club International Bangladesh, Islamia Eye Hospital, and the Board of Governors of Bangladesh Open University. He plays an important role in policy-making regarding financial matters of the country, in collaboration with the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA).
