Albena is a listed operator, which runs sea resort Albena, located on Bulgaria's northern Black Sea coast some 490 kilometres east of the capital Sofia, and holiday village Primorsko. Around 200,000 tourists visit the Albena resort every year. The main business activity of the company is accommodation and it also holds controlling stakes in firms operating in the area of transport, tourist services, medicine, agriculture, construction.
Albena AD was initially established in 1969 as a state-owned company. A 25% stake of the firm was sold in 1997 against vouchers under Bulgaria's mass privatisation programme and 33% was sold for cash to local and foreign investors in November 1998.
