Balkancar Record AD, which was established in mid-1950s, is one of the leading manufacturers of engine-powered forklift trucks in Bulgaria. The product range of the Plovdiv-based company features electric forklift trucks, auxiliary equipment and spare parts for lifting, transporting and towing equipment.
Balkancar Record AD was one of the seven subsidiaries of Bulgaria's insolvent forklift truck producer Balkancar Holding. In November 2000, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold a 65.8% stake of Balkancar Record to a management-employee buyout company Record-Car for USD 550,000. At the time of the sale, the company was in a state of liquidation having accumulated debt of around BGN 14 million in ZUNK bonds, which were issued in 1994 to convert bad debt of state-owned firms to banks into government debt. In the end of 2000, the government voted to write off some 95% of Balkancar Record dues to the state.
