Bulgargaz EAD was set up in 2006 when state natural gas utility Bulgargaz restructured into a holding company with three separate units - Bulgargaz (gas supply), Bulgartransgaz (gas transmission) and Bulgartel (telecommunications). In November 2006, the company obtained a natural gas public supply licence. In September 2008, the holding was renamed into Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH), comprising the state-owned energy enterprises NEC, Kozloduy NPP, Maritsa East Mines and Maritza East 2 TPP.
