Integrated Micro-Electronics Bulgaria (IMI Bulgaria), former Epiq Electronic Assemble, was established in 1998. The company is engaged in the manufacture, engineering and sale of electronics modules. The production facilities are located in the town of Botevgrad. The operations of Integrated Micro-Electronics Bulgaria are organized into three units – Automotive, Industrial and Consumer Electronics. IMI focuses on providing electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and power semiconductor assembly and test services.
Belgian contract electronic manufacturer EPIQ set foot in Bulgaria in 1993 by establishing a manufacturing subsidiary in the country. Sigma Delta Bulgaria was a subcontractor for the Belgian test and automation business. In 1997, the Belgian firm decided to focus on production and assembly of printed circuit boards and electronic modules. In May 1998, EPIQ sold its shares in Sigma Delta Bulgaria to its parent company Sigma Delta Holding N.V. for USD 500,000. As part of the restructuring, EPIQ established in 1997 a new company in Bulgaria - EPIQ Electronic Assembly - which took over the production of printed boards and electronic modules from Sigma Delta Bulgaria.
In 2010, Sensor-NITE Industrial took over part of the assets and the high temperature sensors manufacturing activity of Epiq Electronic Assembly EOOD. Sensor-Nite Belgium, which was acquired by EPIQ in 2001, set foot on the Bulgarian market in 2002 when the production was relocated from Belgium to EPIQ Bulgaria. In August 2011 Philippine-based Integrated Microelectronics Inc. (IMI) acquired Epiq units in Bulgaria, Mexico and the Czech Republic. A month later the Bulgarian company was renamed.
