Bulgarian chemical fertiliser plant Neochim, which was established in 1951, produces ammonia, nitric acid and inorganic and organic chemical products. The company, located in the southern town of Dimitrovgrad, has the capacity to produce around 450,000 tonnes of ammonia and 480,000 tonnes of nitric acid annually. Neochim operates warehouses in the cities of Blagoevgrad, Karnobat and Razgrad. Exports accounts for around 50% of the company`s annual sales.
In June 2000, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 51% of the indebted chemical fertiliser plant to a Bulgarian-Lebanese consortium for USD 100,000. The buyer, Neochim Invest, pledged to invest USD 5.6 million over five years and settle the plant's debt, the bulk of which was USD 14.7 million in long-term dues owed to local gas monopoly Bulgargaz. Neochim Invest was set up by Bulgaria-registered Euro Fert company and Lebanon's Karimex Chemicals International, a company of Karimex Group established in 1994 to export Bulgarian chemicals and fertilisers to Arab states. Euro Fert was set up especially for the sale of Neochim.
