Pain D'Or, which was established in 1993, is a leading Bulgarian bakery that produces long shelf life croissants, fresh breads, par-baked frozen breads and pastry.
The company sells its products on the local market and conducts exports to EU member states, Eastern Europe and the United States.
It was founded by local entrepreneur Kristina Dimitrova and Lebanese businessman Antoine Iskandar.
In 1997, the company diversified its production by adding frozen breads to its portfolio.
In 1998, the firm signed a deal to supply buns for the local restaurant chain of the world's largest fast-food company McDonald's Corp.
The same year, Pain D'Or purchased at a tender a site in the outskirts of the capital Sofia where it later built a production facility.
In 2000, a 25% stake in the company was purchased by Caresback – Bulgaria, an investment company owned by the Small Enterprises Assistance Funds (SAEF) and the EBRD.
Pain D'Or invested over EUR 2.0 million in its development from 1993 to 2003.
In 2009 main clients of the company were BILLA, Metro Cash&Carry Bulgaria, Sweetland, Penny market, and main suppliers - Papas Mel, Duropack Trakia Papir, Tsima.
