One of Bulgaria's biggest lubricants producer Prista Oil is wholly owned by Dutch-registered Prista Oil Group B.V. Its product range includes more than 150 brands of motor, industrial, hydraulic, and turbine oils, greases, and antifreeze and brake fluids. Prista oil operates in more than 20 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa. The company claims market share between 5 and 55% on the markets it has presence. Prista Oil runs production facilities in Bulgaria, Turkey, Hungary and Uzbekistan. It also has 4 storage terminals with total capacity of more than 52,000 cubic meters. Prista Oil is an official representative of Chevron, Ergon and Gulf oil marine.
The company was established in 1993 by two local entrepreneurs. In April 2000, U.S. oil major Texaco acquired 25% in the company for an undisclosed sum. Under the agreement, Prista introduced Texaco's branded lubricants in Bulgaria. In September 2003, the firm set up a lubricants production unit in Turkey.
In July 2006, Texaco sold its stake in Prista Oil Group and after two months the equity was acquired by U.S. investment adviser Gramercy. The fund increased its stake in Prista Oil Group to 30% in June 2007. In December 2007, the Bulgarian antitrust commission approved the concentration of Prista Oil and smaller local competitor Verila Lubricants. In June 2009, Prista Oil acquired 92% stake of Hungary's Bogdany Petrol for an undisclosed sum. In August, the company signed a contract with Hong Kong-based Gulf Oil Marine, part of Gulf Oil International Group, for the production, distribution and supply of marine lubricants. According to the agreement Prista received the exclusive rights for Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania and Turkey.
