Transstroy Varna, which was established in 1904, is one of the largest construction companies in Bulgaria.
The firm, based in the Black Sea port of Varna, has conducted operations in the field of the road, railway, airport and water engineering construction both in Bulgaria and abroad.
A 25% stake of Transstroy was offered for sale against vouchers under the government's mass privatisation programme in 1996-97.
In July 1999, Bulgaria's Transport Ministry sold 56.2% of the company to local firm Transstroy-1 for USD 1.61 million.
Of the remaining shares in Transstroy, 6.17% was offered to employees at a preferential price.
In July 2000, the ministry sold another 8.8% of the construction firm to the majority owner for USD 254,000.
As of end-2010, Transstroy-1 owns 83.95% of the capital of the company.
In July 2010, Transstroy - Varna finished the construction activities for restoring stability of the quay wall of the South pier in Port Lom.
