VTB Capital, the investment arm of Russian state-owned Vneshtorgbank (VTB), established its Bulgarian subsidiary in January 2012. The Sofia-based unit was incorporated as a joint venture between Yisu Ventures Limited, Cyprus and local Delta Capital Investments. VTB Capital AD is expected to manage VTB operations on the Balkans and provide a full range of investment banking services.
In 2010 Russia's VTB acquired a 79.83% stake in local tobacco holding Bulgartabac. In early 2012 the company announced plans to participate in the purchase of state-owned BDZ Tovarni Prevozi and local fixed and mobile network operator BTC.
