Bulgarian private company Zebra, which was established in 1929, is one of the largest rubber products manufacturers in the country.
The firm's product range features V-belts, rubber sheets and floorings, super-elastic and press-on solid tires, rubber compounds, rubberised rollers, filtering gas masks and protective clothing, wide range of moulded all rubber and rubber-metal goods.
Zebra exports around 70% of its production, mostly to EU member states and the United States.
In 1996, Zebra and Italian company S.I.S.A.S. Segnaletica formed a joint venture for the production of rubber-made products for horizontal road marking called S.I.S.A.S. Zebra International.
In April 1999, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold a 75% stake of the Novi Iskar-based firm to a management-employee buyout company for USD 1.5 million.
The buyer, Zebra 2000, also pledged to invest USD 801,000 in the company over the next three years.
Of the remaining 25% of Zebra, 5.0% was kept for covering property claims by former pre-communist owners and 20% was offered to employees at a preferential price.
The sell-off agency sold in June 2003 another 4.69% of Zebra to the majority owner for USD 93,624.
In 2001, Zebra formed a joint-venture with German firm Gummiwerk Kraiburg for the production of precured heavy automotive treads.
In 2004, Zebra opened a four-star hotel in the Black Sea resort Tsarevo where the company has invested approximately EUR 1.5 million.
