The growth of Makro Atacadista in Brazil was conservative in the first 15 years, with the average of 1 store opened per year. After these 15 years, the company adopted an aggressive expansion strategy, increasing the number of stores from 11 in 1986 to 21 in 1990. Today, Makro Atacadista is one of the largest retail stores in Brazil, with a total of 70 stores in 23 states in the country, offering over 12,000 items. The company provides a wide variety of food and non-food products, offering reduced prices for large volumes for registered customers. Additionally, the company has, as part of its operations, 71 restaurants and 31 gas stations located in areas near to some of the stores.
