The primary activity of the Company is the carrying on of general insurance business (property and casualty) and health and group life insurance. The Company and its subsidiaries are incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, except BFH International Limited, Cayman First Insurance Company Limited, BRAC Insurance Associates Ltd., and BFH Services (Cayman) Limited which are incorporated under the laws of the Cayman Islands.
In identifying its operating segments, management generally follows the Company's business operating activities by geographic location (Bahamas Cayman). The Bahamas' segment includes general insurance only and Cayman's segment includes both general insurance and health and group life. General insurance comprises fire, motor, marine, engineering, and general accidents. The health and life insurance segment includes group life and medical insurance. The Company (BFH) was incorporated in September of 1996 as a result of the merging of two established Bahamian companies, Bahamas First General Insurance Company Limited (BFG) and Nassau Underwriters Agency Insurance Agents Brokers Ltd. (NUA). Both BFG and NUA are wholly owned subsidiaries of BFH. 2020 The company's common stock was traded on the BISX under the symbol BFH.
