Universidad Alberto Hurtado (Chile)

The Universidad Alberto Hurtado is a non-profit public institution located in Santiago, Chile. It was founded on October 20, 1997, by the Society of Jesus and is part of a network of 200 Jesuit higher education institutions present in 65 countries worldwide. The university follows the tradition of forming integral professionals through academic rigor and creative spirit. It is named after the Chilean saint, Jesuit priest, lawyer, and doctor of education, Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga, with the purpose of perpetuating his spirit in academic and university work. The university's foundation is rooted in the trajectory of the Latin American Institute of Social Studies (ILADES), a center for high-level postgraduate education and reflection in Latin America since 1965, as well as the intellectual and critical spirit of the Center for Research and Development in Education (CIDE), which has contributed to the country's public policies for over 50 years. The university's objective, shared by its professors, authorities, and students, is to transform Chilean society through excellent professionals. It offers comprehensive human formation and academic programs that, along with flexible and practical-focused curricula, provide minors as a second certification and complementary training. The Universidad Alberto Hurtado was established with the main purpose of creating an excellent academic space that is non-profit, open, diverse, tolerant, and inclusive. In its commitment to public service, the university joined the system of free higher education in 2016, aiming to contribute to an inclusive educational policy that has always been part of its mission.
