Upon creating new companies and acquiring stakes in other compa nies belonging to the finance, insurance and other industrial sectors, the Organization was able to grow and build up an investment portfolio, that upon spinning off its insurance business in 1997 gave rise to what is known today as Grupo SURA. The two major milestones reached in terms of the Company’s recent growth, were the acquisitions of the ING Latin American assets in 2011, as a result of which SURA Asset Management was formed as another of the Group´s subsidiaries, as well as the more recent purchase of the RSA companies, also in Latin America, on the part of Suramericana, the Group´s insurance arm. With this, the Group was able to extend its regional presence in a total of 11 countries, including Bancolombia, thereby becoming a major player in the Latin American financial services industry.
