Ostroj a.s. is a Czech engineering company headquartered in Opava with roots dating back to the late 19th century and formally established in its current form in 1948. It is a traditional producer of mining equipment and a wide range of mechanical engineering products, with comprehensive in house capabilities that cover design, development, production, assembly and service. The company operates through several production divisions, including mining machines, conveyor and underground construction equipment, forging and hardening, engineering and tool shop, and an electroplating division. It manufactures equipment for underground coal and ore mining, conveyor lines, tunnelling machinery, custom technological units, hydraulic cylinders, die forgings for the automotive industry and precision tools such as cutting and pressing tools, aluminium moulds and thermoforming tools. Ostroj controls the entire process from initial project concept and mechanical and electrical design to final assembly, operator training and 24/7 technical support, and also provides surface treatment services including wet painting, galvanic zinc plating and hard chrome plating for internal and external clients. The company employs more than 700 people, operates approximately 42,500 square metres of production area and exports its machines, conveyor systems, forgings and tooling to customers worldwide, with strong positions in Europe and selected overseas markets.
