Povodi Labe, statni podnik is a state enterprise responsible for water management in the Labe (Elbe) river basin in the Czech Republic. Established on 1 January 2001 under Act No. 305/2000 Coll. on river basins, it is headquartered in Hradec Kralove and its founder is the Ministry of Agriculture. The enterprise manages important watercourses and water structures in its territory, including the Elbe above and below the confluence with the Vltava and selected tributaries of the Odra in Liberecky and Kralovehradecky regions. Its core activities comprise administration, operation, maintenance and development of watercourses and waterworks such as dams, reservoirs, weirs, levees and navigation structures, ensuring flood protection, water supply, flow regulation and other water management functions. Povodi Labe performs hydrological and hydrogeological monitoring, assesses the status of surface and groundwater, participates in preparation and implementation of river basin management plans and flood risk management plans and cooperates with local authorities, emergency services, international river basin commissions and other stakeholders. The enterprise also acts as a contracting authority for construction, reconstruction and revitalization projects on watercourses and waterworks in its area. Strategically, Povodi Labe is focused on sustainable and integrated water resources management, balancing flood protection, water supply, environmental protection, navigation and energy interests in the Labe basin while adapting to climate change impacts and evolving legislative requirements.
