Compania Reaseguradora del Ecuador S.A., also known as "EcuaRe," is a prestigious reinsurance company located in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was established in 1977 by several insurance executives and is composed of twelve Ecuadorian insurance companies. In 1995, Dr. Eduardo Peña Triviño assumed the position of General Manager, which he held until 1995. From 1996 onwards, the position has been held by Ing. Omar Espinosa Romero, who remains in the role to this day. In 2016, Hannover RE, through Funis GMBH & CO. KG, acquired 30% of the shares of Reaseguradora del Ecuador, strengthening its position in the current market and providing support for its growth strategy. EcuaRe's main activity is the acceptance of Automatic and Facultative Reinsurance with almost all insurance companies and reinsurance intermediaries in the country.
