The Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG) was established in 1971. The principal objectives of the CBG are to regulate the issue, supply, availability and international exchange of money, promote monetary stability and promote sound financial structure and credit exchange conditions conducive to the orderly and balanced economic development of the country. Its responsibilities also include acting as the banker for the commercial banks, government departments and for government projects and the issuing of currency notes and coins.
