Administrador del Mercado Mayorista S.A. is a private, non-profit entity located in Guatemala City. It was created in 1996 by the Government of the Republic of Guatemala as part of the country's electricity industry restructuring. The company operates the National Interconnected System and administers the Wholesale Market with objectivity and maximum transparency. Its actions are supported by the General Electricity Law, its General Regulations, and the Regulations of the Wholesale Market Administrator. The company's main function is to ensure that generators compete to supply energy based on their variable costs. Consumers must cover their power demand through contracts with participating producers, paying a power charge to cover the generators' fixed costs.
