Capital Bank S.A. (Haiti)

Capital Bank S.A. is a bank located in Petion-Ville, Haiti. It was authorized to operate on October 22, 1985, and was initially known as Banque de Crédit Immobilier SA (BCI). BCI was the first savings and housing bank in the country, dedicated to promoting real estate. It opened its doors to the public on January 24, 1986, during a period of unprecedented sociopolitical upheaval. BCI started with a capital of HTG 12,500,000.00 and 18 employees at its headquarters on Rue des Fronts Forts in Port-au-Prince. Over the course of a decade, it faithfully pursued its objectives and by early December 1996, it had assets of HTG 356,000,000.00, a network of 3 branches, and a team of 50 employees. In 1995, the bank's leaders decided to change its name and consider expanding its scope to better capture business opportunities with the emergence of new institutions and the acquisition of foreign institutions and subsidiaries by local capital. On November 7, 1996, BCI SA became CAPITAL BANK S.A. Three years later, on March 12, 1999, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry approved the modifications made to the bank's statutes and authorized CAPITAL BANK SA to operate as a full-fledged commercial bank. This new status now allows it unrestricted access to the business environment. From March 1999 to the present day, Capital Bank has quietly and steadily established itself in the Haitian banking market by continuously consolidating its assets and complying with the laws and requirements of the banking profession.
