The legal predecessor of PannErgy Nyrt. – Pannonplast - was founded in 1922 and was engaged in the production of plastic. In 2007 the company announced a new strategy – to use the Hungarian geothermal resources to generate heat and electricity; by that time it also took its new name, PannErgy. In 2011 the company began the production and sale of heat in the city of Szentlorinc. The second plant is located in Berekfurdo – beside heat, electricity is also produces there using the methane gas dissolved in the geothermal water. In 2013, in the city of Miskolc, Central Europe’s largest geothermal power plant started its operations.
