Vesuvius India Ltd. is a subsidiary of Vesuvius Group Ltd., based in the UK. It was incorporated on September 6, 1991, and began commercial production at its first factory in Kolkata on July 1, 1994. The company has four factories, located in Kolkata, Mehsana, and two in Visakhapatnam, with another factory in Visakhapatnam set to be established soon. The Kolkata factory manufactures Continuous Casting Refractories, including slide gate equipment and porous plugs. The Visakhapatnam factories produce monolithics, pre-cast shapes, and taphole clay, while the Mehsana factory manufactures crucibles for the non-ferrous industry. The company also has a manufacturing arrangement in Salem, which supplies basic monolithics for tundish application. Vesuvius India Ltd. is listed on the Bombay and National Stock Exchanges. The holding company, Vesuvius Group Ltd., currently holds 55.56% shares of Vesuvius India Ltd., and the ultimate holding company is Cookson Group plc, whose shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. In 1986, Cookson Group plc acquired controlling interest in Vesuvius Group and made it their Ceramics Division.
