Bank Mellat is a private commercial Iranian bank headquartered in the city of Tehran. It was established in 1979 after the merger of several banks operating before the Iranian Revolution. It provides retail banking services, including deposits, cheques, loans and other facitities. The bank’s shares are traded on Tehran Stock Exchange. Bank Mellat, like all Iranian banks, operate under the principles of Islamic Sharia law, which bans the charge and payment of interest.
