It was established on August 23, 1978, with the partnership of the private sector, Industries and Mines Development Bank, and Toshiba Corporation of Japan. After the Islamic Revolution, the shares belonging to Toshiba Corporation were purchased by Iranian stockholders, and the shares of Industries and Mines Bank were sold to the private sector. In March 1996, the company was admitted to the Stock Exchange, and its first deal was conducted on March 18, 1996. The company's activities include purchasing, sales, and management of shares of various companies, direct investment or partnership in industrial, agricultural, mining, and construction projects, investment management consulting services, obtaining financial and credit facilities, and procurement, purchase, sales, import, and export of goods and products. The company also has the authority to establish branches and grant representation/agency permissions to firms both domestically and internationally.
