Irbid District Electricity Company Ltd was established in 1957 as a public shareholding company that holds the exclusive rights to generate, transmit, distribute and supply electricity in the northern region of Jordan, which covers the districts of Irbid, Mafraq, Jarash, Ajloun, as well as parts of Balqa district. This represents approximately 26% of the total area of Jordan, covering 23,000 square kilometers. In January 2010, the Company acquired a 20% stake in Jordan Dubai Telecom and Technology.
