Hotel Developers (Lanka) Plc (Sri Lanka)

Hotel Developers (Lanka) Plc, located in Colombo, is a 100% Government Owned, public listed company that owns Hilton Colombo. It was incorporated on March 15, 1983, under the name Lanka Japan Hotels, and later changed its name to Hotel Developers (Lanka) Limited on October 20, 1983. In January 1984, a Management Agreement was signed with Hilton International to manage the hotel. In April 2008, the company was re-registered as Hotel Developers (Lanka) Ltd under the new Companies Act of 2007. In November 2011, the government acquired all the shares of the company under the Revival of the Underperforming Enterprise or Underutilized Assets Act. In October 2012, a new Management Agreement was signed, and HDL undertook the refurbishment of Hilton Colombo. The hotel was opened for commercial operations in September 1987. The refurbishment project began in 2014 and is being carried out in phases while the hotel remains in operation. Phase 1, which included the Main Kitchen, Lobby, All Day Dining Restaurant, Executive Lounge, Coffee Shop, and Reception, was completed in August 2017. Phase 2, covering the Rooms and the Chinese Restaurant, is scheduled to commence in October 2018 and expected to be completed in July 2020.
