Financiera Independencia S.A.B. de C.V. was constituted in 1993 as a non-bank or Limited Purpose Financial Institution (SOFOL) to provide personal loans to the lowest income population segments, developing suitable financial products for these groups. Financiera Independencia began to operate as a Multiple Purpose Financial Institution (SOFOM) during the first quarter of 2007 and in 2011 acquired 77% outstanding shares of “Apoyo Financiero Inc. – AFI”, a microfinance company mainly serving the unbanked Hispanic community in San Francisco, California; and “Apoyo Economico Familiar AEF”, a microcredit institution in Mexico.
