Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos was founded in 1551, however, functions beginning in 1553. The university is a public educational institution, and oficinalmetne is recognized as the first Peruvian University and the oldest in America. The University provides studies in medicine, law, political science, human sciences, dentistry, chemistry and management sciences.
