Baia Mare airport was founded in its' actual place in 1964, when began the construction of the concrete runway. Baia Mare airport is presently an autonomous regie, under the administration of the Council of Maramures County. Beginning with 1966, the concrete runway with the length of 1400 m was used for short and medium courier airships. Between November 1977 and June 1979, the concrete runway was prolonged to its’ actual sizes (1800 m length and 30 m bredth, plus 7,5 m concrete footways on each of its’ sides).
