Saudi Electricity Company, also known as SEC, is a Saudi Arabian electric energy company headquartered in Riyadh. Established in 2000, SEC operates in the energy and utilities sector. The company offers non-renewable resources, electrical engineering, energy, electric power, oil pipelines, and oil and gas products and services. With over 10,000 employees, SEC is involved in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity to various consumers, including governmental, industrial, agricultural, commercial, and residential sectors in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, SEC establishes, leases, manages, and operates electric and fiber optic networks for telecommunication services. The company also provides support services for bond and sukuk issuance and engages in financing activities. In 2012, National Grid SA was established as a transmission company to operate the national grid. SEC holds a monopoly on the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power in Saudi Arabia, operating through 45 power generation plants. The formation of SEC was a result of a merger of regional electricity companies in the Central, Eastern, Western, and Southern regions into a single joint stock company, as ordered by the Council of Ministers.
